100 Lotus Flowers

2009: 100 Lotus Flowers taking me through a transition in my life. Each flower is a message which brings me closer to the goal. I try to come to terms with myself, and be myself. What messages do the flowers hold?
2013: What is the goal? I no longer know what it is, except for reaching the 100. But the 100 was not supposed to be the goal itself, but rather help reach the.....the.....I am lost, honestly lost. Everything I was striving for has diminished in importance. I do not know what to strive for. I think striving for anything now is pointless....but I will keep drawing and painting.
2014: A renewed sense of purpose, things seem to be falling into place.

100 Lotus Flowers, 100 points of healing.

Thirty Second Lotus Flower

Thirty Second Lotus Flower - Samantha Rochard - Mixed Media

We endeavor to change
Because we endeavor to better ourselves
All that is noble, patient,
For Royalty, glory and the strength to be.
Change is constant. When we refuse to change we stagnate, we rot, we become a spirit controlled by fear. The beauty within us is meant to be shown off.
The Peacock is also a symbol of spiritual evolution. It is associated with Lakshmi, and Kwan-Yin (Japan)
I am drawn not only to its iridescent beauty, but also to the energies it symbolizes.

Thirty First Lotus Flower

Thirty First Lotus Flower - Samantha Rochard - Mixed Media

Look around you,
The tools you need to be what you wish to be,
Are already accessible to you.

Its an almost difficult concept to imagine, let alone believe. That in reaching from point A to B the knowledge, equipment and contacts that you need are already available to you. Its an idea that requires a leap of faith sometimes. So lets reinforce the idea into my mind that I have everything I need...or that everything I need is accessible to me. The only thing I have to figure out is how to get it! It sometimes requires a more creative approach to looking at the "problem"... but rest assured the solution is there.

Find the Archetype that can assist you
Your journey will be guided by them

And I could not resist. I had to use this motif.... it really is where I am.  A recent post about this icon on a "Follow your Bliss" discussion board (Joseph Campbell) spells it out clearly:

An individual/group whose awareness of themselves, thier social surroundings, the natural world, and the Mysterium Tremendum is different from that of thier parent family/society. Fools do not develop or function within expected ranges of conformity, both failing and surpassing these orthodox parameters.

I am now walking the Way of the Fool.

Twenty Ninth Lotus Flower:
Know when your path is certain
Know when your way is clear.
You will begin to see a pattern form
With the certainty of your direction.

Another use of the Labyrinth theme. This time though, the way is not confused, but quite orderly. The way definitely IS clear.

Twenty-Eighth Lotus Flower

Twenty Eighth Lotus Flower - Samantha Rochard - Mixed Media

When You have found your centre
Do you have a clearly defined Path?
Or is it confused and meandering?

Labyrinths have been used in decoration in temples and spiritual places since ancient times. The Labyrinth is meant to be wandered, ever toward the center to reflect upon the path that one wants their lives to take. However, what happens if you already know where your center is? Is it easy to plan your life from there? Do you plan? Or do you leave in up to synchrondestiny? AT the start, it seemed confusing.......

Twenty Seventh Lotus Flower

At the time you begin to blossom
From below the murky waters
Your next step is to learn
To spread you wings and fly.

There was no way I could do a series like this without a butterfly or dragonfly coming into a picture. These two creatures are symbols of life transformation. The butterfly's metamorphosis from a caterpillar who's only focus is eating (consume, consume, consume) - to that of a butterfly, who is able to transcend from the earth (Earthly concerns) is a common metaphor for spiritual growth.

Hopefully I shall earn my wings eventually.  :)

Twenty-Sixth Lotus Flower

Twenty-Sixth Lotus Flower - Samantha Rochard - Mixed Media
Twenty Sixth Flower's message is all was meant to be enjoyed,
It is by temptation that we learn to resist
It is by desire that we are shown direction.

Life is not meant to be a party, but we sure are meant to enjoy it. We should feel like we are celebrating at least once a day. There should be reason to celebrate at least once a day. That was one thought while doing this.
My other thoughts were on desire.....and direction.
I remember in my early twenties, being given a book which was popular at the time in a particular religious faith. There was a section in the book that spoke of the danger of reading magazines.(and I love magazines) These encourage desire, which, in any form or fashion should not be encouraged as it leads to sin. (See how people can get guilt tripped?)
Fast forward to my late thirties to read from a Deepak Chopra book that desire was important, because it signaled the direction our souls were supposed to go. What a radical change in perception about the same human emotion! We, as spirits living in this manifest existence are meant to experience this life. It is by that experience of the great, the horrible and the down right confusing that we are pressured into our diamond state.

Twenty-fifth Lotus Flower

Twenty-Fifth Lotus Flower - Samantha Rochard - Mixed Media

Twenty Fifth Lotus Flower stays on simple pleasures
The smile of a child,
Family and close friends
Coming together in love....

Simple pleasures are even easier to see when children are around. To see their faces light up at a new box of crayons or a piece of lace, or just finding a new type of Flower. If you have forgotten what pure delight looks like, spend time with a child, play with a child...... you will remember by the look on their face.
This Lotus flower reminds me too of a magazine named "Victorian." The magazine was all about simple pleasures. Little girls in white lace dresses romping through the grass, handmade jars of jam, stick sweet home made bread......Love that....should have bought a farm perhaps.......
